The "Turning Up All Night Long(er)" Playlist

At least, most of them.

Parties are one of the best ways to momentarily forget the pressure and anxiety that permanently burdens us in college. Anxiety from tedious classes, internship applications, trying to fathom what your life will be after school, the list goes on.

Parties are the ideal stress reliever, whether they're at a raging frat or at your sports club teammate's apartment, but with great power comes a great responsibility: being the DJ.

Choosing music can be daunting. I mean, who wants to be that person who accidentally skips over the crazy beat drop, or leaves out the one-hit wonder that everyone is dying to drunkenly scream the lyrics to?

The key to a killer playlist is a mix of both throwbacks and the current Billboard dominators. Bottom line: when in doubt, form a track around these amazing hits, in no particular order. The ones listed below are some of the essentials from this featured Spotify playlist.

"The After Party" Playlist

Chill songs for a laid back, late night vibe.

Imagine after a long party on a cool, fall Saturday night. It's 1 a.m. and after a full day of football and partying, you're chilling in your room with a few people. The lights are off and there is a candle burning. People are either passing out or too tired to talk.

This playlist will provide a perfect backdrop for a setting like this. It's filled with bands such as The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Phish, The Beatles, Herbie Hancock, and a lot of other really intense and powerful music.

This playlist is filled with bands such as The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Phish, The Beatles, Herbie Hancock, and a lot of other really great musicians and bands that can create an intense mood through music.

If this is on in the background in a quiet room after a long day or night, it will captivate everyone. This music should create a powerful dynamic that's great late at night no matter the activity.

Friday Night House Party Playlist

Booze, babes, and beats.

Every few weeks I find myself constantly searching for new music. I listened to the same songs over and over again I found a few weeks ago and now I'm in desperate need of some new stuff.

But I needed a playlist that had more than just a few songs that I already knew. I needed music music that would help me stay dancing all night, and entertain every single person at my party.

So I took it upon myself to be the one to give you a killer playlist for that rager you're throwing this weekend. Here's the playlist that has it all (and is updated occasionally by yours truly). It's perfect for a party, a bumping car ride with the crew, or a kickback with a few friends.

Ranging from Notorious B.I.G, to Tyga to Diplo, this playlist will keep a party going all night.

Now all you need is a loud speaker, a ping pong table, and some booze. Friday night is looking really good right about now.

Old School Rock Pregame Playlist

For people who groove to instruments.

This playlist will take you back to the time of smoky stadiums, loud guitar solos, cut-off sleeves and headbands.

Kicking off this playlist is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are on the more recent side of the playlist, and then continues with plenty of classic rock Gods like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns n' Roses, ZZ Top, and more energy filled music that will make you sing, dance, and shred the shit out of your air guitar.

But be warned. Nowadays, you need a specific group of people for this playlist to fly. It's only for people that like rock and roll and despise that new age rap and electronic crap. And yes, they are mutually exclusive.

Because duh, The Beach Boys are crucial summer listening.

The sweet, slow Beach Boys song that will undoubtedly make you smile.

How could I not include this cute, acoustic hit of 2008?

Bubbly - Colbie Caillat
To get even chiller, use the acoustic version in your playlist!

The adorable, ukulele-ridden indie track that you'll remember as soon as you hear it!

A super sweet, chill track that showcases Ingrid's amazing voice.

I could include so many more Jack Johnson songs, but I'll stick with this favorite.

It's at your place, obviously.

Tipsy - J-Kwon
"Errybody in the club gettin' tipsy!" is one of the most iconic lines from any song.

Heaven - DJ Sammy
I'm finding it hard to believe we've all forgotten about this amazing song.

Can you believe this song came out 6 years ago? But we all still love the chorus regardless.

It has that vibe that makes you wanna dance and sweat your ass off.

On the same album as "Harder Better Faster Stronger" which came out in freaking 2001!

Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
You'll totally recognize this song when you hear it!

Thong Song - Sisqo
How is this not already on your party playlist?! Let me see that thong!

The "Oooo Shit I See You" Playlist

It's indescribably cool.

You know when you're hanging with some pals, fucking around and avoiding responsibilities, when someone suddenly grabs hold of the music and plays an absolute banger? Your head starts bumping to the beat, you break out a modified version of your go-to dance moves, and you look at your friend like "what the hell is this song and where has it been all my life?"

That's what this playlist is. Every. Damn. Song.

It's perfect for any mood and any occasion. Are you curling your hair and getting ready for a night you probs won't remember? Play this playlist. Walking to class and need a little pick-me-up because of the exam you're about to bomb? Play this playlist. 'Bout to get it on with that frat guy who only sends "you up?" texts at 2 a.m.? Actually, maybe don't play this playlist. Maybe play Trey Songz or something like that. Or just dump that guy, he sounds like an asshole.

It's the perfect mix of up-beat, jazz, hip hop, and electronic and you're about to overuse it until your friends beg you to play something else. Happy listening!
